"We are truly grateful for the support of our international guest curator Helen Pheby and those artists who submitted their work for consideration. This dedicated international component of our gallery program brings something very unique to the city of New Orleans. It allows us to make many innovative and exciting works by emerging international artists available to both collectors and art enthusiasts. Most of the works in this show from abroad are not currently available in any other US city outside of New York. It's been hard work but also extremely rewarding at the same time." - Melissa and Kurt, co-directors.

Maslen & Mehra - New Works

Red_deer_3BECA gallery artists Tim Maslen and Jennifer Mehra, based in London, UK, took the contemporary art world by storm in the year 2000 and lucky for us they have now landed in the southern United States. This April, BECA gallery proudly introduced their work to New Orleans for the first time. As part of the gallery's 2nd major juried international contemporary art exhibition, 'MIRROR for the 21st Century', Maslen & Mehra's photograph titled, "Red Deer - Bibliotheque German Parliament - Berlin" (pictured at left), Durst Lambda print on aluminum and silicon mounted acrylic,  was chosen by international guest curator, Helen Pheby, PhD and will be on view at BECA gallery through May 23rd.

When their work arrived at the gallery, we were captivated by the beautifully staged narrative scenes within their photographs and their choice of landscapes and architectural settings from around the world. Their placement of reflective sculptural silhouettes within these environments results in a glimpse into a possible parallel universe as suggested by art critic and art historian Edward Lucie-Smith.
